Chapter 11

  1. Enter whitehouse.gov/government/index and review the "Gateway to Government." Rate it on the Deloitte Research scale (what stage?). Review the available tours. Make suggestions for the government to improve this portal.

  2. Read the issue paper, "E-mail Communication Between Government and Citizens," at rand.org (the site requires you search for the paper instead of allowing a direct link). What are the major conclusions and recommendations of this study?

  3. Enter oecd.org/Puma/citizens and identify the studies conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Europe on the topic of e-government. What are the major concerns?

  4. Enter fcw.com and read the latest news on e-government. Identify initiatives not covered in this chapter. Check the B2G corner.

  5. Enter ca.com/products and register, then take the jasmineii_portal/test_drive. (Flash Player from Macromedia is required).

  6. Enter xdegrees.com, centrata.com, and Pointera.com and evaluate some of the solutions offered. Also, enter aberdeen.com to learn more about P2P operations. How can they expedite a search for a song at gnutella.co.uk?

  7. Enter knowledgespace.com. This knowledge base resides on Andersen's intranet. Sign up for the service (if still available free for a trial period). Why is such a system better when utilized on the intranet? Why not use a CD-ROM-based technology?

  8. Enter govexec.com/egov and explore the latest developments in G2C, G2B (and B2G), and G2G.

  9. Enter http://www.groove.net/ (replaces worldstreet.com) and go to "products." Identify all potential B2B applications, and prepare a report about them.

  10. Enter procurement.com and govexec.com, identify recent e-procurement initiatives, and summarize their unique aspects.

  11. Locate IQ Magazine at cisco.com and find information about employee portals and P2P/B2B. Prepare a report about them.
